GetHomeSafe satellite connectivity with Spark is now live

GetHomeSafe now supports satellite-to-mobile connectivity through Spark, giving Kiwi workers a second pathway to stay safe when they're operating beyond traditional cellular coverage.
Following our launch with One NZ last year, this expansion means even more New Zealand teams can use GetHomeSafe to its full capacity outside of mobile coverage, using satellite connectivity on compatible mobile devices and plans. With two of New Zealand's major carriers now offering satellite-to-mobile, the conversation around remote worker safety has fundamentally shifted.
Full safety functionality, wherever work happens
When workers connect to GetHomeSafe over Spark's satellite-to-mobile service, they get the full experience, not a stripped-back or "fallback" version.
All key welfare and safety events are supported regardless of location, including:
- Starting a detailed work & journey plan
- Prestart JHA and take five risk assessments
- Check-ins
- Safety observations
- Man-down alerting
- Location sharing
- Site check-in and check-out
- Time and mileage recording
- Duress alerts
- HomeSafe confirmations
For organisations with people working across rural, remote or hard-to-reach sites, farms, forestry blocks, conservation land, infrastructure projects, civil works, utility corridors, there's no longer a reason to drop your safety processes just because the cellular bars disappear.
What you need to get started
To use satellite connectivity with GetHomeSafe over Spark, you'll need:
- A compatible device
- A compatible Spark plan with satellite text and data included (or added as an extra)
- The latest version of GetHomeSafe
Please refer to the Spark website for the latest details on supported devices and plans.
No extra cost. No account changes required.
There is no additional cost to enable satellite connectivity within GetHomeSafe, and no changes are required to your GHS account.
Simply ensure you are running GetHomeSafe version 4.27 or higher, and satellite functionality will be available when supported by your device and plan.
A genuinely connected Aotearoa is closer than ever
New Zealand has some of the most spectacular and most remote working environments on the planet. Until recently, that meant safety processes had to compromise the moment a worker rolled out of cell coverage.
That era is rapidly ending. With both Spark and OneNZ now offering satellite-to-mobile, and GetHomeSafe supporting both, organisations can finally apply a single, consistent safety standard to every worker, every site, every journey, regardless of cell coverage.
Satellite-to-mobile is a game-changer for remote workers
